چکیده

alpha-Cyclodextrin at concentrations of 1-8 mM helps dissolve, in aqueous solution, fatty acids such as lignoceric, stearic, and palmitic, and complex lipids such as ceramide and cerebroside that contain these acids. Formation of an inclusion complex was indicated on examination of the solution by gel filtration. alpha-Cyclodextrin strikingly increased synthesis of ceramide from sphingosine and either free lignoceric or stearic acid by rat brain preparations. These results suggest the further use of alpha-cyclodextrin in lipid enzymology, especially in relation to sphingolipid metabolism.

Nanoparticles of Cyclodextrins & Their Applications in Food Technology

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are a family of cyclic oligosaccharides which are composed of α (1,4) -linked glucopyranose subunits. Thebest-characterized forms are α, β and γ CD which are consisted of six, seven and eight D-glucose units, respectively. Cyclodextrins are produced from starch by enzymatic degradation. These macrocyclic carbohydrates with polar internal cavities can form complexes with and ...

A study on the targeting of ceramide metabolism by (-)-epicatechin gallate, catechin and quercetin in A-549 lung cancer cell line

Catechin, epicatechin gallate (ECG) and quercetin, as bioactive flavonoids, have been shown to possess anticarcinogenic effects. Ceramide plays an important role in killing tumor cells. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to clarify the involvement of these compounds in ceramide metabolism in A549 cancerous cell line. Spectrophotometer, cell culture and HPLC methods were used. Cell viability...

The biosynthesis by brain microsomes of cerebrosides containing nonhydroxy fatty acids.

Incubation of microsomes from mouse brain with UDP-gal, a long-chain base, and W-fatty acyl-CoA resulted in formation of NFA-cerebroside labeled in the fatty acid residue. The rate of synthesis was ten times that of the system lacking UDP-gal or long chain base. The incubation system also formed NFA-ceramide, at a much higher rate. Stearoyland lignoceroyl-CoA were much more effective in forming...

In Vivo Conversions of Cerebroside and Ceramide in Rat Brain.

Lignoceric a~id-1-C'~ was used to make lignoceroyl psychosine (kerasin) and stearic acid-l-Cl4 to make stearoyl sphingosine (ceramide) . Emulsions of the labeled sphingolipids were injected directly into the brains of young rats and the resultant lipoidal metabolic products were examined for radioactivity. Most of the metabolized C14 was found in the ester-linked fatty acids, particularly in th...
